Hello, and welcome to Intuitive Baby Sleep. If you are here, you are probably looking for ways to help your family get more sleep, wanting to shift patterns in your little ones’ sleep without sleep training, or searching for reassurance that your instincts around your child’s sleep are spot on. Or perhaps (and most likely) all of the above. If this sounds like you, trust me, you’re not alone. I’ve been there too, and you are in the right place.
My name is Chelsea Driscoll, and I’m a mama to a two-year-old rainbow baby girl, who I refer to as O on here, and she is the reason I started Intuitive Baby Sleep. My husband, Nic, and I are from New Brunswick, Canada, and have always known our hometown is where we wanted to raise a family. We love this cozy little life we’re building, full of time outdoors with O and, of course, lots of snuggles.
I am a researcher with an MA in Economics and am currently taking the Baby-Led Sleep & Well-being Specialist Certification through Isla-Grace Sleep. I became passionate about infant sleep during my first year of motherhood. I knew Ididn’t want to sleep train O, yet I found myself unknowingly going down that path (you can read more about that here). I took a very popular newborn sleep course before O was born, which went against every instinct I had. Luckily it didn’t take long for me to ditch everything I had learned and start following my intuition.
But as much as I wanted to follow my instincts, I was worried I was doing everything wrong… My mama heart wanted to do what felt natural, which was to nurse my baby to sleep and snuggle her for naps, but my researcher brain wanted validation that it was ok to do these things.
So began researching normal infant sleep, hoping to find something that aligned with my values, and my goodness, did I ever find the reassurance I needed! I found research that validated that responding to my baby was not only biologically normal, it was beneficial for O and I in so many ways. I learned that our desire to be close did not mean that we were broken, it was exactly how we were hardwired to be. So we embraced nursing to sleep and contact naps (you can read all about why I love contact naps here) and eventually ended up bedsharing (which you can read about here).
The more I learned, the more confident I became in trusting my intuition as a mom. With each obstacle we faced with O’s sleep (split nights, false starts, and nap strikes, to name a few), I would turn to the evidence, but more importantly, I would turn inward and trust myself to know what was best for our family and that my maternal instincts would not lead me astray.
Because the truth is, deep down, we all know what’s best for our babies, we sometimes just need validation that we’re doing the right thing and a little help tuning out the noise.
Which is exactly what I am here to do.
My vision for Intuitive Baby Sleep is to educate parents on normal, biological sleep, help families get more sleep without sleep training by sharing gentle, holistic, attachment-centred solutions grounded in research, and, most of all, empower parents to trust their intuition.
I am so excited to share everything I have learned (and will continue to learn) with you!
